Women of the Word Bible Quilt® Journal: Mary, Mother of Jesus

The Bible includes pivotal female figures who are familiar to us in some ways, but we may want to learn even more about them, considering their perspective in Biblical narratives. Let's explore their stories a little deeper on a #biblequiltjournal page!
Mary
Mary, a young girl who was visited by an angel, became the mother of Jesus, Savior of the world. She clung to her relative Elizabeth during her tender days of pregnancy and obediently accompanied her betrothed to Bethlehem.
While I've done a page on the Virgin Birth in my ABC Bible Quilt Journal, I haven't done one specifically on Mary.
I selected the Mother & Child template to provide the foundation for my page, starting by coloring in the elements and added a title sticker.
Then I began scripture writing from the passage in Luke in which she's visited by the angel Gabriel. I left space to list particular facts and impressions around the figure.
On the back I'm continuing to write the passage from Luke, focusing on Mary's connection with Elizabeth. The next page in my journal is on Elizabeth so this will provide me with a comparison from both of their perspectives.

I'm leaving room for notes and reflections on the right side of the page.
The Magnificat
Mary's song, also known as the Magnifcat, can be captured in several ways. From an online Bible journaling conference, I got this printable in which I made a window to open with the scripture passage revealed.

Another example of documenting the Magnificat is this page I did in my Christmas Bible Quilt Journal last year, inspired by a sermon series during Advent. I used oversized stickers for the title and added some music notes to embellish around the handwritten scriptures.
From His Infancy to His Ministry
As Jesus grew up, Mary bore witness to his development on multiple levels. She was present during his first miracle as He turned water into wine at a wedding in Cana.
I used the Clay Pots template to capture this passage from John, chapter 2. It just happens to have 6 jars as the passage references, which makes it great to use as an illustration for this particular text.
I left some space for additional notes for the next time I hear a message going deeper into this portion of scripture.
Another poignant scene to capture would be when Jesus turns Mary's care over to John. I haven't decided how I'm going to tackle that passage yet. Sometimes I like to leave a chapter of a character's story for another round because I pick up on different details each time I review a passage.
I'm inserting these pages into my Women of the Word Bible Quilt Journal, using a disc-bound system so I can shift pages around as I streamline my process.
What women in the Bible do YOU want to learn more about?
When I first started doing BQ pages on female characters, I made individualized tabs as I did each one.
Whether you're attending a Bible study which is focused on Mary or another character you're studying, these tabs can provide you with a quick way to categorize your journal.
Attach these directly to your BQ page or use washi tape to add it to a page protector if you're using a 3-ring binder.
As we continue to dive into the stories of other women in the Bible, our journals will grow along with our knowledge and faith.
