Women of the Word Bible Quilt® Journal: Michal

We're probably more familiar with Saul's son, Jonathan, than with his two daughters mentioned in 1 Samuel.
Saul initially offered his firstborn, Merab, to David as a wife but ultimately married her off to Adriel of Meholah.

Michal is described as loving David, however, this doesn't seem to be the reason Saul gave her to David as a wife. He used her as a snare and enticed David further by issuing him a challenge for a particular bride price.
Saul basically was trying to get David killed at the hands of the Philistines.
When that ploy didn't work, Saul got more desperate and more direct in his threats against David.
Michal helped David escape when her father sent his agents to their house to kill him. This part gets a little quirky. She disguised a household god with goat hair and a garment to fool them into thinking her husband was ill in bed.

Saul was angered by Michal's deception. Later we find out that he even marries her off to another man, Palti.
Meanwhile, David is acquiring other wives and concubines.
It's not until we get into 2 Samuel that we read about David's negotations to get Michal back.
This part of the story takes a sad turn as we learn how much Palti loved her, following her and "weeping all the way."
Being used as a political pawn by her father and husband David was hard on Michal. Her love for David seemed to diminish over time, especially given some of his bold, promiscuos and sometimes reckless behaviors. To add to her emotional distress, she never had children.
I included both of these sisters on one page in my Women of the Word BQ Journal, a disc-bound system that allows me to add more pages or to move them around as needed.
I cut the tab for Merab smaller since I didn't have as much text for her, leaving the tab for Michal the regular size.
