Let's continue to explore the background of women in the New Testament, capturing their stories in a Women of Word Bible Quilt Journal.
~ ~ ~ Bible Quilting Martha's Story ~ ~ ~
Martha was the sister of Mary and Lazarus. Each sibling seemed to have a special relationship with Jesus and he was a beloved guest in their home.
I attended a Bible study at a local church which provided some printed scripture passages. I cut these apart and glued them onto my page, saving space for note-taking during each session. Later at home I finished off the pages with some additional shading and stitchlines.
I inserted these into my Women of the Word BQ Journal, a disc-bound system that allows me to add more pages or to move them around as needed.
So the next time I heard a lesson on Martha, I was able to take some abbreviated notes and focus on the object lesson. I chose not to write the scripture passages again because I already have these in my journal.
I did a 2-sided half-page so that it's easier to view the other Martha page as a quick reference.

Since this lesson was from the Women of the Word Bible Journaling Conference, there were some printables offered from the speaker, Lyn Grobler with Journaling on the Way I used to illustrate my notes.
I like having different perspectives about the same passage, gleaning insight as I review the prior notes and comparing it with this fresh viewpoint.

It's hard to learn about Martha without also considering Mary, isn't it?
Whenever characters are closely tied to others in a passage you're studying, you may choose to do a BQ page on them together. Here's an example from Alice, a Bible Quilter in Alabama, who did a combo page on these special sisters:

As you explore the story lines of women in the Bible, you may encounter themes you'd like to explore further. Martha always reminds me of the gift of hospitality. She was willing to open up her home to Jesus and His disciples.
During you character study, feel free to sidestep and start a BQ page ona topic that's meaningful to you.
We can glean so much from these women who have gone before us, providing us with poignant examples of how to live in community with one another.
I was inspired to make a set of tabs to use as I created BQ pages on Women of the Bible.
Whether you're attending a Bible study which is focused on a character or a book of the Bible or you're doing an independent study, these tabs can provide you with a quick way to categorize your journal.
Attach these directly to your BQ page or use washi tape to add it to a page protector if you're using a 3-ring binder.
Another option is to use a Happy planner punch system and build your journal over time. This is what I'm currently doing.
What women in the Bible do YOU want to learn more about?
Please share in the comments below or in our BQJ Facebook group. Looking forward to hearing from you!
If you're not ready to commit to a whole journal, consider doing some template pages. You can always add them in later!
If you prefer to journal with a vertical orientation, try these:
