Women of the Word Bible Quilt® Journal: Miriam

Whenever we encounter strong female characters in our Bible reading, we can summarize their stories on a Bible Quilt Journal page. I'm developing a journal specifcally on this genre, Women of the Bible, as I do this unique type of scripture writing. I invite you to follow along wih us!

Miriam

Miriam was the sister of two noteworthy brothers, Moses and Aaron.

I printed a template on a plain piece of card stock, added washi tape to the top of the page, then punched it with a Happy Planner punch to insert it into my disc-bound Women of the Word Bible Quilt Journal.

I used some of the embellishments provided in the Women of the Word Bible Journaling Conference to help illustrate my BQJ page as I took notes from the speaker.

It took one full page to summarize the workshop I listened to about Miriam being prepared for various seasons of her life.

I also did more #scripturewriting on the back of the page, capturing passages in which Miriam is mentioned.

I used actual post-it notes to create a quilt background pattern, then wrote out summary notes and reflections.

I imagine Miriam had a strong personality, yet she also had flaws which were used by the Lord as an example to the Israelites. Her week of confinement must have had a strong impact on many of them as well as her ultimate restoration showing God's grace.

What have you learned about her story??

Setting up your own BQJ pages

This set of templates with generic female figures can help you get started on pages about women in the Bible. You can experiment with colored card stock to print out templates or to use as freestyle pages. This gives you instant background color so there's less coloring you need to do. I've also made a set of tabs to use for many women named in the Bible.

Whether you're doing an independent reading, attending a Bible study focused on a character or a book of the Bible, these tabs can provide you with a quick way to categorize your BQ journal.

Attach these directly to your BQ page or use washi tape to add it to a page protector if you're using a 3-ring binder.

For loose BQJ pages, I often slip them into page protectors until I determine which BQ journal they're going in. By placing them into a 3-ring binder, I have flexibility to move pages around until I've determined the sequence I'd like to use for these character summaries in my Bible Quilt Journal.

Another option is to use a Happy planner punch system and build your journal over time.
