The Old Testament prophets journeyed from place to place, relying on the kindness of people along the way to procure meals and lodging. Through the prophet Elisha's travels, we're introduced to the Shunammite Woman. Although unnamed, we learn a lot about her character.
I selected a template from the Women of the Word BQJ (pg 44?) to use as my summary page for my notes on the Shunammite woman.
Since this story was within a contained passage of scripture in 2 Kings, I chose to print out the text rather than handwrite it. This allows me to have all the details in front of me on the page, providing me with an easy way to highlight phrases and add notes in the margins.
Described as a wealthy woman, she demonstrated acts of generosity and seemed to have a posture of contentment.
I love how Elisha's servant, Gehazi, identified her unspoken need of having a child. God blesses her with a son. When her son dies, we see her faith in action as she seeks Elisha's help. She maintains a calm demeanor throughout crisis, responding "All is well," twice.
I left some space for additional notes if I get a chance to listen/read other commentaries. Plus, I'm so curious about the son's 7 sneezes... so I want to have time to reflect on this story and see if there's some consensus regarding the boy's healing.
There's also more to her story in 2 Kings 8:1-6.
For now, I've tucked her page back into my Women of the Word BQ Journal until I glean more inisght or details about this woman of Shunem.
