As we move into the book of 1 Kings, we're immediately introduced to Abishag, a young woman from Shunem, a village in northern Israel.

Sought after for her beauty, she is brought in to be King David's caregiver in his old age. Theirs is not a sexual relationship, yet it was intimate because of her attending to his personal needs. Interestingly, one of her main purposes was to lie beside him to keep him warm.
She must have been privy to many of the internal goings-on in the palace. For example, she was present when Bathsheba came in and out of his bedroom.
When David passed away, Abishag's position there was vulnerable. She even became a pawn in Adonijah's ploy to usurp the kingship.
Again I estimated the amount of space I would need to cover Abishag's story and used a smaller vertical template for a change of pace. I stamped some florals to help balance out the spacing. I've got Abishag's page with its corresponding tab tucked back into my Women of the Word BQ Journal, a disc-bound system that's getting chunkier over time as I continue to add pages and embellishments. It's nice to have this tangible sign of progress!
