Journaling Through the Word: Bible Quilting® Project: Hosea

The book of Hosea is the 28th book of the Old Testament and the first of the minor prophets.
Remember that "minor" refers to length of the books, not depth or significance.
Hosea was a prophet in Israel who was commanded to take an unfaithful wife for a specific purpose in a particular timeframe. This was a huge personal challenge for Hosea, but God equipped him.
Hosea is a book of restoration, both in Hosea's personal life and for the people of Israel. It highlights God's pursuit of His people and a poignant message for the Israelites to return to Him.
It's a reminder of God's great MERCY offered to us.
As I read through the book again and listened to a commentary, I took notes on the Hosea template.
I also did a summary page of scripture writing for the 14 chapters of Hosea.
Once I completed the #scripturewriting, I looked at the page as a whole then added shading and background doodles.
During this process I remembered we had a sermon series on Hosea a few years ago.

I pulled these pages from the BQ NOTES Journal and hole-punched them so I could insert them into my disc-bound Journaling Through the Word BQJ.
I also pulled notes from a Bible Study on Hosea so I could integrate all these resources into one place.
Bible study on Hosea: No Empty Word
I used a stamp to title one page for notes specific to the book of Hosea.
Then I decided to make a BQ page on the prophet Hosea himself, focusing on personal characteristics that emerged as he shared the message he was to deliver to the people.
On the flip side of the personal page on Hosea the prophet, I printed the Weeping Woman template as a foundation page for characteristics regarding Gomer.
These separate pages allow me to see Hosea from different perspectives: the book as a whole, the prophet as a person, and his unlikely bride, Gomer.
By using the Happy Planner disc system, I have the flexibility of moving these pages around within my Journaling Through the Word BQJ or to move Gomer's page into my Women of the Bible journal. (I can even choose to make a color copy of her page so I've got the material in both places.) I'll likely add a sticky note as a reminder of where I have more in-depth information.
I love this interactive approach to studying the Word because it helps me take a deeper look at relationships between God and his prophets, the relationships between prophets and others; as well as broadening my understanding of a book of the Bible through scripture-writing and note-taking in this personal way.
