Numbers is the fourth book of the Bible and is part of the Pentateuch, also known as the Torah or the law of Moses.
It has 36 chapters, picking up where Exodus ended with the journey of the Israelites through the wilderness, including significant events as they wandered for 40 years. It includes tales of spies, revolts, manna from heaven, and a talking donkey.
As you read Numbers, you can add more detailed information on your Books of the Bible flip cards along the way.
Bible Quilting Numbers
I started my BQJ page on Numbers by adding a title and using some washi tape with a ruler pattern to incorporate numbers onto the page.
The name of this book is derived from the Lord's instruction to count the Israelite males who were able to go to war. The first column is a summary of this census.

I highlighted what is probably one of the most popular verses from Numbers:
"the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-2
Amen!!

Any time I'm nearing the end of a summary page, I consider how many more chapters I need to cover and how many pages in my journal I have allotted for this particular book. This helps me gauge my spacing for key passages I want to include.
Since I'm finishing up page 1 of my BQ summary at chapter 18 out of 36, I feel like I'm at a pretty good pace and decide to repeat the large title from page 1 onto page 2.

Then I resume #scripturewriting and quilt blocking passages with some simple "stitch" lines, using a small ruler to help keep things straight.

Sometimes I summarize key facts from a chapter like I did for Chapter 26 at the top of the page. This may be more succinct than writing out full verses.
I highlighted Joshua as a main character by drawing a banner around his name.

Once I completed the #scripturewriting, I looked at the whole page and added some additional color in the background of the quilt blocks.
Along the way, I took notes on the Numbers template and jotted in additional info on the poster from the BibleProject.
Numbers is full of interesting characters like Moses, Aaron, Balaam, and Joshua. You may want to explore one or two more in-depth on another BQ page. Or you may want to follow up on a key theme like God's repeated mercy for His people who need His discipline.
Since the Israelites really struggled with disobedience, I'm also including a summary page of a podcast with Tim Keller on the "Liberty of Obedience" to add some modern day application.
Bible journaling

As you read through Numbers, you may want to highlight keywords or particular phrases that impact you. You may even feel motivated to memorize a verse or two.
ALL of these overlaps of reading, writing, and illustrating scripture will reinforce our learning as we make deeper connections between passages and pray about how to apply these insights to our daily lives.
