Judges is the 7th book of the Old Testament and is categorized as one of the historical books of the Bible. It has a steady theme that stomps dramatically through tragedy and mayhem:
"...the Israelites did evil
in the eyes of the Lord..."
In many ways the book of Judges is very dark - - - yet the thread of God's faithfulness weaves through it, offering hope amidst tribulation.
"then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders." Judges 2:16
None of the judges are unidimensional. Some of them arise in poignant ways, such as Gideon and his "fleece" test.
When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, He exclaimed, "Ah, Sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!" Judges 6:22
Bible Quilting Judges
I realized I had forgotten my blank circle to write in facts about the book on page 1, so I incorporated it onto page 2.
You may be inspired to explore characters like Samson, Gideon, Deborah, or Delilah to write their stories onto separate BQ pages with additional notes.
I'm using the Judges template from the Old Testament set to summarize some podcasts and other resources as our community group explores this book together.
Despite some of the squeamish scenes in this rather dark period of Israel's history, we can glean lessons from these leaders whose strengths and flaws were demonstrated in dramatic fashion.
Throughout your perusal of Judges, you may encounter verses that you'd like to add to your ABC Journal. You can simply add the keyword and reference to your ABC flip cards to #biblequilt later or you may be motivated to immediately add that verse onto the specific letter page as you go.
As you read through Judges, you highlight keywords or particular verses that impact you. Some of these may even inspire additional BQ pages.
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, "the Lord is WITH you, mighty warrior." Judges 6:12
