Ruth is the 8th book of the Old Testament, and personally one of my favorites.
For most of us, narratives are easier to read. This one is brief, only has a few main characters and employs a direct plot line, so it's a great story to read in one sitting.
Each read-through often provides a new understanding of God's provision and redemption.

This is a tale of a widowed mother, Naomi, and her daughter-in-law, Ruth, who have a special bond especially after the death of their husbands.
Ruth chooses to leave her homeland of Moab to accompany Naomi back to her native land in Bethlehem. By her actions, Ruth demonstrates that she is "all in" with Naomi, aligning herself with her mother-in-law through all their challenging circumstances.
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God." Ruth 1:16
Ruth could certainly be a motivational speaker for the values of loyalty and integrity, couldn't she?
Bible Quilting Ruth

I used my Cricut machine to cut out the title letters using some floral scrapbook paper. Since I had some family stickers available, I incorporated these throughout the page to highlight the "family tree" aspect of Ruth's story.

Once I completed the #scripturewriting, I looked at the whole page and added some additional color in the background of the quilt squares.

Since this is a shorter book than most, I was able to include a lot more of the dialogue, switching colors to help delineate betwen the characters.
I jotted down additional notes on the Ruth template and the poster from the Bible Project I printed onto the backside of the template.
Here's a sample BQ character study page I did a while back on Ruth that's on one of the Women of the Bible templates, which I've placed in my Women of the Bible journal.
I love cross-referencing between my BQ journals and incorporating notes from Bible study into them so they're more readily accessible to me.

As you read through Ruth, you may want to highlight keywords or particular verses that impact you. This may help you identify themes you'd like to pursue later in another reading.
Perhaps you'd like to sidestep to explore the topic of loyalty or research the family tree of Jesus, using the genealogy template.
By following these interests, you'll deepen your understanding of connections throughout the Bible.
You're welcome to join us next Tuesday for our monthly Zoom Chat to discuss ideas with other Bible Quilters.
