Journaling Through the Word Bible Quilt® Project: Old Testament

As we dive into this project of Bible Quilting through God's Word, let's take a look at the broader perspective of the Old Testament.
The 39 books of the Old Testament are divided into categories such as the Pentateuch, history, the prophets, plus books of wisdom and poetry.
Most Bibles have an introductory section that helps clarify these classifications.
The Blue Letter Bible is an online resource that is pretty handy also.
If you aren't sure how you want to use this information on your BQ pages, then start capturing details on the books of the Bible flip cards. These are small and can be worked with on-the-go while you're in the carpool line or a waiting room.
Once you're ready to dive into creating BQ pages, I've got some templates to help provide structure.
Although I've designed templates specific to this project, there are a LOT of other templates that can be integrated for note-taking and scripture writing.
I'd encourage you to review some of your past Bible study and sermon notes because those materials will trigger some personal memories and insights that may resonate with this process.
Of course, many podcasts and videos are available to us online to enable us to search for specific data.
A while back I watched this lesson from the BibleProject classroom You Can Understand the Old Testament and took notes using a BQ template. It's part of a larger series:
I've got this page tucked in right before Genesis in the Old Testament subsection of my Journaling Through the Word BQJ.
The page is not completely full yet, so I can continue to jot down notes as I finish this course or if I listen to different podcasts.
As you can see, I'm using sticky notes for details I'd like to include but haven't decided where yet. I do this a lot, especially with themes I'm discovering but don't know how I'll tie them together.
Please note that my goal is NOT to always show completed pages and all my notes because I'd like to encourage you to develop your own process and style of BQ journaling. I'm merely trying to be an "open vessel" by vulnerably showing my processes & pages to facilitate the use of these materials. Remember that I've been doing this for years and am pulling together resources I've been developing for a while. My intent is to provide you with enough of a foundation that you can launch your journal with some direction of where all this is headed!
By the way...
Did you spy the fun washi tape at the top of the page above?
It has the books of the Old Testament on it! I'll drop a link to the Etsy shop down below for ya. 😊

We can collect information from a variety of sources to broaden our understanding of ancient scripture.

For instance, I visited the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC a few years ago. I recently reviewed some of the photos I took of the exhibits.
The ancient scrolls and meticulously built storage cases were so impressive!
Imagine what it was like to handle these sacred treasures or to have the responsibility of being a scribe making copies to distribute.
It's humbling to think about how the art of scripture writing has been around for such a long time.
I think it's sweet to consider how the Bible Quilting community is retracing the steps of those early scholars and scribes as we create in our journals. 😊
