Journaling Through the Word Bible Quilting® Project: Exodus

Exodus is the second book of the Bible and is part of the Pentateuch or the Torah, the law of Moses.
In its 40 chapters we meet Moses, read about the plagues upon Egypt, and are introduced to the Ten Commandments.
We learn more about the Israelites as God's chosen people and see multiple ways in which God demonstrates His faithfulness to them.

The book of Exodus provides some great reminders about God's sovereignty and His steadfast love for His people despite their stubborn ways.
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery." Exodus 20:2
Bible Quilting Exodus
I started my BQJ summary page on Exodus by adding a title and using some arrow washi tape to represent the forward motion of the Israelites.

I spent some time focusing on the main character, Moses, capturing key events of his personal life and his role as a leader for the Israelites.

When I got to the Ten Commandments, I realized I was running out of room to get everything on the page I wanted to cover.
hmmm...
I decided to make a tip-in out of card stock. I cut it into an outline of tablets and wrote the Ten Commandments on the outside of the flap.
I secured the tip-in with washi tape.

I summarized Moses' experience on Mt. Sinai on the page underneath the tip-in.
I had forgotten that there were actually two sets of the stone commandments, so making two on my page seemed fitting.

As I wrote out the Scriptures, I also drew illustrations and applied stickers along the way. I like the eclectic look of having both on a BQ page.
In addition, I jotted down notes on my Exodus template, the corresponding flip card, and the poster from the BibleProject that I already had set up in my Journaling Through the Word BQJ.
I'm praying that by sharing these compilations of how I've approached Bible Quilting over the years helps inspire your own ideas of how you'd like to develop your own personalized resource. Keep in mind that I've been doing this for years and merely showing you a variety of options as I "connect the dots" for myself.
The variety of themes of Exodus may inspire you to create BQ pages on specific topics, such as the Ten Commandments, holiness, or in-depth study on the Sabbath.

The post-it note templates are helpful to use for key points you want to remember.
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Exodus 20:8

As you read through Exodus, you may highlight key phrases that impact you and perhaps choose to do a verse map on a particular scripture.
You may even be inspired to embellish passages in your Bible with hand-drawn illustrations, stickers or washi tape.
All these overlaps of reading, scripture writing, and illustrating will reinforce our learning as we make connections between characters of the Bible and see how their relationship with God develops. The more engagement we have with the material, the greater our understanding will be as these processes help us slow down to absorb the underlying meanings and applications for our lives today.
