ABC Bible Quilt Journalers
Box of journals
I got my box of journals for my Ladies church group today! I'm so excited to hand them out tomorrow and have our first get together meeting on Thursday. Any suggestions, comments or encouragement is appreciated. I have approximately 25 ladies signed up to start ABC Bible Quilt Journaling!!
Stuck on finding a word/phrase for your ABC page??
I have harvested most of my scriptures for my ABC Bible Quilt Journal through devotional readings or Bible studies. A word or phrase will impact me strongly and I'll jot it down on a post-it note for a particular letter in my journal.
Sometimes you may want to complete a certain letter and need to actively search for words/phrases the begin with that letter.
You can always consult the concordance in the back of your Bible, but that list may be limited.
A to Z Patchwork summary pages
Since the ABC Bible Quilt Journal was printed in the Fall of 2019, I've developed a few patchwork pages that can summarize a topic from A to Z.
Here are a few ideas:
ABCs of God's Everlasting Attributes (A - Almighty to Z - Zealous)
ABCs of Salvation
ABCs of a Christian's Faith
ABCs of our Family's Values
ABC video: Attaching Tabs
I had some sweet girls join me for a private Zoom session to talk about getting started in their ABC Bible Quilt Journals.
This process video might help YOU get started, too!
Video link: Attaching tabs to your ABC Bible Quilt Journal
Carefully tear out the tab pages from your journal.
Color all of your tabs:
ABC Bible Quilt Journal - setting up your tabs!
Tear out the tabs from your ABC journal. Press down on the spiral with one hand to hold it for leverage, then tear one tab sheet out at a time.
Then start coloring in the letters and add whatever embellishments you'd like.
Once you've got your tabs colored, then cut along the dotted line.
Next fold each tab in half so you can sandwich them on either side of the page you're attaching them to.
"V" is for... Virgin Birth
What a miracle that we often overlook in the hubbub of the season!
Think about young Mary, the virgin from Nazareth who was "highly favored" and chosen to give birth to our Savior, Jesus. Wow!
I started this "V" page in my ABC Bible Quilt journal this week, thinking I would do a couple verses on the virgin Mary and then some other "V" verses.
I ended up doing a whole page, focusing on this honor that Mary had above all other women!
I started with a verse from Isaiah that foretold of this miracle...
ABC Bible Quilt Journal - Printable version
I was inspired by some of my international friends to make more of the Bible Quilt products accessible to those of you joining in long-distance. 😊
So...I've added a printable version of the ABC Bible Quilt journal into the online shop. I'm experimenting with the size being 8.5 x 11 so it's more manageable to print and not have to trim down to the typical 7 x 10 BQ journal size.
Once you've got it printed, you can hole-punch the set (minus the tabs and ABC flip cards) to put into a -ring binder. Or, you could take the printed set to a local print shop and have it bound with the spiral binding of your choice.
How to navigate the ABC boards
Think of this group as a forum in which to share our ABC pages with one another. My hope is to create a resource that we can all access and contribute to. I've laid out the structure and each of you can build upon it!
I've got posts on the "ABC Bible Quilt journal" for each letter of the alphabet. These will be the main entry for each letter. As you share comments or photos, enter these under the comments section of that particular letter of the alphabet. The next person that comes along to view that letter will see the main post and also be able to scroll through the comments to see pages contributed by BQ members.
You can view the "A" board to see the sequence of sharing in the comments.
A to Z: a glimpse of my ABCbiblequiltjournal
We all know that the Bible is full of encouragement and wisdom, but sometimes it's good to look at these truths in a new perspective. I think that's one of the fun things about Bible Quilting the #abcsofthebible. You can snatch bits and pieces of verses throughout the Bible to create a beautiful page of new ideas/terms, perhaps seeing things in new light.
Here's a glimpse of some of my #ABCbiblequiltjournal pages so far:
Notice that some of my pages still have space for more verses...this is an on-going process of collecting beloved verses in a unique way. Stay tuned for another round of #abcsofthebible & join in at any time!
The NEW #ABCbiblequiltjournal is here! Read more...
"S" is for ...
"STRONG and courageous..." Joshua 10:25
I started this page by using #washitape to mark off some quilting squares. It helps divide up the space, yet is still flexible for me to move the washi to adjust as needed.
When I decided to stamp #strength, it went beyond my initial spacing so I just removed the washi tape and squished in my word.
Here's another sample of an "S" page by my special friend, Mary Jo, who created the "S" design for the ABC Bible Quilt journal. I love how she made it super quilt-y!
S is for Surrender. Surrender yourself to God! You won't regret it.
James 4:7

"R" is for...
"let the peace of God RULE in your hearts." Colossians 3:15

"Z" is for...
You ZIPPED right through your ABC pages! Thanks for sharing your journey with us. 😀
“Y” is for...
“X” is for...
We knew this would be a tricky letter. 🤪 I’m eXcited to see what y’all come up with for X verses! Go, team, go!

“W” is for...
“V” is for...
"Victory rests with the Lord." Proverbs 21:31

#ABCbiblequiltjournal #abcsofthebible #Visfor__ #victory #vine
Sometimes when we're especially frazzled as parents, maybe we should try starting our statements to our children with a hearty "Verily, verily..." (would that get their attention??)
“A” is for...
ABIDE
"Abide in Me and I will abide in you." John 15:4
If you're doing a #wordfortheyear, you can use this template as a title page for your Bible Quilt journal. It can serve as a visual reminder to you each time you open your BQ and you can add verses to it throughout the year to continue to develop its meaning to you. If you're not doing #onelittleword this year, then you're welcome to snag one of these #abide verses for your "A" page in your ABC journal!
“B” is for...
BELOVED
"Let the BELOVED of the Lord rest secure in Him..." Deuteronomy 33:12

“C” is for...

"...created in Christ Jesus"
Ephesians 2:10
Sometimes I like the simplicity of using a similar color palette...

The ABC Bible Quilt Journal has a variety of "letter starters" that sometimes inspire you to go a certain direction. The loose thread on this "C" page made me think of clothes, so I looked in my concordance for references re: clothing.
C is for Cast your Cares!!! Psalms 55:22
All praise to God the Father and The Son and The Holy Spirit

“D” is for...
"DELIGHT yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the DESIRES of your heart."
Psalm 37:4

Daily we have the opportunity to delight in the grace of God and to delve into the holy Word. "May Christ dwell in your hearts..." in a special way for you today, friends!
“E” is for...
“F” is for...
"Fear not for I AM with you..." Isaiah 41:10

I often use sticky notes to remind myself of verses I'd like to include on a certain page.
I'm experimenting with pages that are a patchwork of all kinds of words/phrases that start with "F" as well as pages that focus on one theme, such as this one "F is for...flowers."
I'm catching my ideas on my ABC flip cards:
F is for Father!!!
Malachi 4:6
He will turn the parents to their children.

“G” is for...

"God of hope"
Romans 15:13
"He is GREATER than our hearts."
“H” is for...
Heritage.
As we send our kiddos off to school, this is a great reminder to pray over our children's faith journey and to nurture spiritual legacy in our families.
"but as for me and my HOUSE, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
My friend, Stephanie, designed this lovely "H" for the ABC Bible Quilt Journal and shared this example page with us:
“I” is for...
“J” is for...
Joy
When ladies gather around the BQ table, creating with scripture and offering encouragement to one another, JOY fills the room as the Holy Spirit knits us together a little closer.
I added a pocket to this page so I could incorporate some bookmarks my Mom had given me to share with Bible Quilters. If you're Bible Quilting with kids, bookmarks can be a great resource for references ...and spelling. 😉
I'm collecting ideas for my ABC journal on a flip card set. This allows me to jot down key words and the references so that I can look up the whole verse and quilt it onto my page later. (One of these is included at the back of the journal.)
“K” is for...
~ ~ ~ KEEP watch ~ ~ ~
If you search for verses on KINDNESS, you'll see that many of them are tethered closely to love. Kindness is love in action!
I often start pages in my ABC Bible Quilt Journal by coloring the letter, then check to see if I have any add-ins that need more space so I can work around them with freehand verses.
"...knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7
“L” is for...
love.
"His love is made complete in us." I John 4:12
There are so many verses on love that you can do a whole page: L is for...LOVE
Look at this lovely "L" a young lady designed for us for the ABC Bible Quilt Journal!
“M” is for...
"...the MEEK shall inherit the earth..." Psalm 37:11

I typically write full verses on a particular theme in my regular Bible Quilt journal.
The fun of having an ABC Bible Quilt is making these colorful patchwork pages full of a variety of verses, often using smaller snippets of scripture so that the focal word highlights the letter-of-the-week.
“N” is for...
“O” is for...
"ONE and Only Son." John 3:16
Often I'll use a variety of words beginning with the letter of the keyword, but somehow this page focusing on ONE emerged!
#biblequiltjournal #abcsofthebible #Oisfor__ #One #Only
#omega #overcomer #overjoyed #overflow #opportunity #outweighs
“P” is for...
“Q” is for...
QUIET place
"Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place." Mark 6:31
Where do YOU have your recharge time in the Word?
I have a cozy spot on a loveseat with an afghan made by my Grandma. I've nestled in here enough that when I do settle in, calmness settles over me as I pick up my Bible or devotional to read.
"T" is for...
"TRUST in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
This was one of my Mom's favorite verses and is a treasured one to me since we clung to it throughout her cancer journey.
As my son graduates from high school and prepares for college, this is one that we pray over him as well. There are many paths our children can take, so praying that they follow God's path is our heart's desire. ❤️
Stencils work great to add some circular shapes to your pages. Tip: If you don't have a stencil handy, simply trace around the bottom of a mug or cup. #usewhatyouhave
"U" is for...

This week we're gathering up verses with words/phrases that start with the letter U:
Upright
Unfading
"UNTO Thee, O God, do we give thanks." Psalm 75:1
I use both washi tape and hand-drawn stitch lines to make my quilt blocks, writing in verses and perhaps doodling along the way.
Let's go on a treasure hunt through the Bible!

One of the fun things about Bible Quilting with kids is that we tend to use dynamic expressions and infuse animation into the process. I think that's where the concept of "going on a treasure hunt" arose in one of our sessions with kids. My sis-in-law asked her boys what topic they wanted to do next and one of them quickly replied with "Awesome!" so they began a quest to find scriptures that referred to "awesome."
Applying this treasure hunt idea to finding scriptures on everything from A to Z contributed to the idea of the #abcsofthebible series. It's a creative pursuit individually, but also a great family activity!

You can go in order or drop verses randomly throughout your ABC Bible Quilt pages.
As I come across scriptures that don't "fit" onto one of my ongoing theme pages, I start adding these verses onto a Letter page that highlights…
