30 Days of Redemption

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

The theme for our Month-by-Month Bible Quilt Journal series for April is...

- - - Redemption - - -

I'm gearing up for April by decorating my calendar page with spring-infused washi tape and a few Easter stickers, adding the daily scripture references along the way.

- - - What does it mean to be redeemed?

In the Bible, to be redeemed is to be made free from sin. Jesus atoned for our transgressions and delivered us from sin. His poignantly simple statement from the cross, "It is finished" signaled that He had satisfied our debt of sin and, thus, freed us from the eternal consequences of sin.

Because of this gift of redemption, we can live in peace and rest in the assurance of God's grace.

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

I chose Titus 2:13-14 as my anchor verses this month:

"...while we wait for the blessed hope - the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to REDEEM us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good."

Thanks to Veronika, a Bible Quilter in Germany, for developing this solid list of references for us to explore this month as we prepare our hearts for Easter.

I'm writing out the full verses on a set of flip cards to familiarize myself with this collection of scripture. Occasionally I'll add a verse that follows or precedes the verse on our reference list to better understand the context.

Sometimes exploring other translations also helps deepen my understanding of the particular verse I'll be #biblequilting in my journal.

I started prepping my 30-day template spread by adding a touch of color by brushing an ink pad lightly over the page. I discovered the phrase "I am redeemed" on a faith sticker page I've had for a long time, so I used it for the title. You could also hand letter or stamp the title.

Our featured template for April is 3 Crosses on Stained Glass. This lovely page was designed by our BQ friend, Alice, from Alabama.

I've been playing around with this page in its various printings in the Monthly Bible Quilt Journal and the 2021 BQ Calendar. It's a fun one because it has so many elements!

We'll be using this template for our Spring Craft Night this Friday. You're welcome to pop onto Zoom to join us!

Many passages in the gospels can be used with this template or the original cross template to illustrate the resurrection story. You can use this month's #30daysofredemption or last year's #30daysofresurrection as additional resources.

As spring blossoms around us, may we encounter the glories of this new season and rejoice in our redemption.

As we decorate our BQ pages this month may we reflect on the blessings of Easter's message to each and every one of us.

"He is risen!" Matthew 28:6
