Texting a BQJ page as a Gesture of Support

Many of us have already gotten into the habit of creating BQ pages to encourage our friends and family members, especially if they are facing a particular health challenge or in a season of grief.

We can use our #biblequiltjournal pages to curate scriptures for specific situations and embellish them for the unique recipients receiving them.

Here's an example I shared a while back in the post, Pray It Forward.

In addition to giving completed BQJ pages to loved ones as a gesture of comfort, we can also take photos of our pages so we have them available to share digitally for a spontaneous connection.

How to add Washi Tape to Reinforce your Bible pages

Our Bibles get a lot of activity as we're flipping through them.

Adding washi tape to first page of Genesis in my study Bible

I like to reinforce the edge of the first page of each book of the Bible. This makes it easier to find each book and adds a cute layer of reinforcement, especially if you plan on adding Bible tabs later.

I'm still "moving in" to my Bible that I'm using this year to read through the Bible. I've gradually been adding washi tape as I go.

Over time I figured out a simple trick to help manage the washi tape by using a ruler to help align it to the page. Here's a peek at my process.

Dollar Tree in the kitchenware department has a small plastic mat that is perfect for putting on washi tape.

Christmas Tree Fun with Washi Tape

Just when you thought you'd figured out a bunch of ways to use washi tape on your #biblequiltjournal pages, you discover another fun project to do with it!

Mary Jo shared this idea with the BQ community recently on a Zoom call, noting she probably saw the original idea on Pinterest somewhere.

Check out this cute Christmas tree she made!

Simply stack up Christmas-y colors of washi tape to build the tree, then add some shimmery squares or stickers. Add a star on top and ta-da! You've got an adorable tree that you can add scriptures all around it.

This would be a fun technique to do with kids and lends itself to a variety of themes!

Brown washi tape is hard to find, so you can use some plaid or dark polka dot to contrast with the greens of the tree.

Printing & Trimming Templates

I've had some questions re: printing and cutting #biblequiltjournal templates to fit onto a 7 x 10 Bible Quilt Journal page, so I thought I'd walk you through the process using the Argyle pattern.

Argyle template in Original Bible Quilt Journal

The pdf downloads that you receive by email when you order from the online shop are formatted for the template image to be 6.5 x 9.5 inches. You can print on regular sized 8.5 x 11-inch printer paper.

I recommend printing out on paper heavier than regular copy paper so it's more durable. Typically I use white 65-lb weight card stock. You can experiment with different paper textures and colors if you'd like!

Since the template design is already formatted to fit the 7 x 10 BQ journal, you do not have to adjust printing size.

Try printing the smaller templates at 115% to expand it to 8.5 x 11" paper size. Let me know how that works for you, Christina!
