This month in the Monthly Bible Quilt Journal, we have the Power template featured. When I designed it last summer, I hadn't considered the big open space might be a bit tricky to "quilt." Admittedly, I had to contemplate this one for a while. We discussed it in a recent Zoom call, which helped several of us brainstorm a strategy. Since we've been reciting the Apostle's Creed at church more recently, I thought I would use this large passage to fill in the center space. The creed has three "I believe" statements, so I pulled out my click-together stamps to emphasize each of these. Notice that I didn't have enough "e's" so I used a "c" that I can just add a line to turn it into a "c." I had some remnants of a sticker sheet available, so I decided to stamp directly onto the sticker sheet to see how it looked. This helped me estimate the spacing of the phrase better and gave me the opportunity to try different colors of ink. Once I made this determination, I trimmed around the phrase and applied it to the template page. I switched between colors of my Papermate Flair pens to differentiate between the three members of the trinity, trying to keep my lines straight along the expanse of the page. I boxed in the "I believe" phrases and added some stitch lines. Then I explored scriptures that supported various parts of the creed. I used some cross-hatching to fill in space and create a more uniform background. Lastly, I shaded in some yellow to help frame the Creed in the interior of the page. This whole process is certainly helpful if there's something you'd like to memorize or a passage you want to explore a little deeper. I'm curious to see what you all create with this powerful template! 💥 Please share yours in the comments below or in the BQJ Facebook group. #powerofGod #May2022 #power Favorite Supplies for Bible Quilting

Spring is that enticing season of bright flowers and new growth all around us. I love having a wagon full of possibilities, don't you? I thought I'd spring a new floral template onto our creative workspaces for May! Here's a lovely one designed by our BQ friend, Mary Jo: I started mine by coloring in all these cute little wreaths. Then I began filling in the patchwork squares with verses, combining two together to fit my title card "blessed." I had some planner stickers in the same pastel colors I was using, so I trimmed these to fit the spaces and added my selected scriptures. If you've got the BQ Notes or another vertical journal, we've got a vertical version of these wreaths for you, too! This template would fit right in to the floral page section in the BQ Notes, such as shown below: Enjoy creating with these floral wreaths, my friends, and please share your completed pages in the FB group or in the comments below!

The featured template for April in the Monthly Bible Quilt Journal is the Rainbow 2. This is an excellent "excuse" to pull out all your colorful washi tape and have fun creating a cheerful rainbow page! You can fill each section of the rainbow with washi or alternate with colored pencil designs. Your choice! Note: In hindsight I would add more red patterns on the left to balance it out a little more. Once you've got your rainbow full of colorful patterns, then select your verses and start filling in your quilt squares. I also applied some additional washi tape to incorporate more spring elements - umbrellas, butterflies, and flowers. One of the verses in our Promises of God series was a little too long to handwrite, so I played around and made it into a sticker (fits into the upper lefthand or a couple of the middle quilt squares.) I used Papermate Flair pens of the same rainbow colors to write out the remainder of my chosen scriptures, then added some stickers and doodles. Initially I planned to leave the clouds white, but ended up shading the edges with prismacolor pencils. So many great colors and promises to fill up this page! This month's template in the BQ Calendar is the Flying Kite, designed by Mary Jo from an actual quilt pattern. I started by simply coloring in the triangular sections...then did lines in the background. One of our verses for this month, Growing in God, happened to have 8 characteristics. I cut these titles from the sticker sheet. "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love." 2 Peter 1:5-7 This template reminds me of a pinwheel. Imagine blowing it into action, blending all these characteristics together! I outlined around the titles to give them a patchwork look. I decided to crosshatch the lines in the background for a little extra texture. Hanging it up and ready to roll into March! How are you decorating your BQ calendar this month? With the recent widespread snowfall, most of us have gotten a hefty dose of wintry cold air and all the slushy mess that comes along with it. What do you like to do after being out with the kids romping in the snow or taking your dog for a sludgy walk? We like to peel off all the drippy protective gear and warm up by the fire with a favorite beverage. There's just something extra cozy about shifting from the harsh winter elements into a comfy circle around the fireplace, isn't there? The contrast is often very striking to our senses, heightening our awareness of the marvelous way our bodies adapt to changes and connecting us as we experience these transitions together. That's the feeling I was trying to capture with the Home Fireplace template - - - that cozy connection we have with God when we snuggle up with the Word and join Him in prayer. I started my page out by coloring in the elements on the page, contemplating some of the Abiding verses we're focusing on this month. I used some book washi tape in the background to represent our family's love of reading, then added some stickers to give it a homey feel with some textured layers. I highlighted one of the verses on card stock to give it a framed effect on the background wall, then I went searching for other scriptures to add to the page. I'm debating about adding some background color, but have learned to wait in order to let the page "settle." I can always add more details later when I get fresh ideas for a page. Ha! You never know when inspiration will strike! As I was putting my supplies away, I found some animal stickers and added this little doggy to my scene in honor of my Katie and the extra "cozy" she adds to our home. Have fun decorating your own lil fireplace vignette and share with us by dropping a photo in the comments below! Sometimes I like to explore a variety of translations for a particular verse, especially the soothing Psalms. Here's an example of how you can make a BQ page on one passage but show a variety of translations: I happened to have two versions already typed out, so I pasted those onto decorative card stock to make some pretty quilt squares. Then I filled in the remaining white space with portions of two other translations. I added some stitch lines and a few sticker embellishments to finish it off. If you'd like to compare translations for this passage or one similar, here's a template for you:

Have y'all decorated the Crazy Quilt Block pattern in your Jan 2022 BQ Calendar yet? With all the fun shapes in the design, I decided to pull out some scrap paper and create a patchwork quilt background before adding any verses. Once I had the papers cut to size, I glued them down and colored the perimeter with pastel colored pencils. Next I wrote in verses from a book I've been browsing again, When Mothers Pray. The eclectic mix of verses was just what this patchwork page called for! This page will provide me with a quick resource as I pray over all of my boys' unique transitions into school this month. How are YOU decorating your January calendar?? Show-and-tell in the comments below!! Don't have the calendar? No worries. Just snag the template below and get scrappy with it!

I'm capturing a couple of our 31 Days of Peace verses on the blank pages at the back of the Monthly BQJ. At this time of year I like to incorporate some Christmas carols from old hymnals, too. I finally found some earth stickers. I probably should have used just one on this page, but I had to cover up a handwriting mistake so I just went along with it! What hymns inspire you during this season? They'd be a great way to finish up the last pages of your Monthly BQ journal for this year! Sometimes it takes us a little while to get a page completed. And that's OK! I started this Christmas tree a few weeks ago by ripping a scrapbook paper into a triangular shape, leaving the edges rough. I glued it onto the journal page and added a few stickers. Then about a week later, I received a generic Christmas card with some ornaments on it and cut one out to use as a tab for this Christmas-y page. I added some other stickers that I had out on my desk for another project... then went on my merry way to something else. Last week after my devotional reading, I turned to this page again to add a verse that kept resonating with me. I drew in some stitch lines, played around with a white gel pen, and slipped a little washi tape on there, too. This week I finished it up with a few more stickers, another handwritten verse, and some stamped snowflakes. A few background doodles were the finishing touches. I opted out of a title on the tab because it's pretty apparent it's a Christmas page and I thought the ornament tab was cute enough on its own. Much of the time it's the PROCESS of contemplating these verses and considering how different elements combine together rather than the finished product. related post: Washi Tape Christmas Tree #christmastree #christmas #joy #princeofpeace #31daysofpeace #everlastinglove #stickers

I've had several people ask me about how to decorate the calendar pages in the Monthly BQJ as well as the BQ Calendar. My default answer for a quick stash of numbers, titles, holidays, and seasonal images is to grab some planner stickers. This Carpe Diem brand has vibrant colors and comes in two sizes: regular and mini. Paper Studios or Accent Designs has plain black numbers on a clear background. One package of these versatile numbers would do a whole year! Any type of planner sticker will likely give you a range of seasonal images to get you started on your calendar pages. These are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing! #tipsandtricks #stickers #plannerstickers #preppingcalendarpages This post contains amazon affiliate links. Did you get a chance to watch the replay of our last Zoom session? Among other Christmas-y things we discussed, I showed how to make a washi tape Christmas tree. I thought I'd show how I finished off the page after the video. Since the tree was such a large element already, I decided to write out a single verse. I cut an ornament design out of a greeting card for the tab, then added some fun stickers to balance out the page, leaving white space to focus on the verse. If you get some time to be crafty this week with a friend or family member, give this easy technique a try... and then share your creations with us! Drop a photo in the Comments below or share over in the Facebook group. I made a few Christmas card blessing rings while I was playing around with washi tape trees. They're a great way to corral all the holiday cards you get. Just hole punch each card and slide it onto the ring, then you've got a handy way to view all the sweet cards you're receiving. These aren't listed in the shop, so send me a message if you're interested. $10 each. related post: Christmas Tree, page in progress #washitape #christmas #washitapetrees #biblequiltingfriends

Tis the season of Advent, a time of waiting and preparing our hearts. I've had a few people ask how to create BQ pages while taking sermon notes, so I'll share a few recent Advent pages. In my BQ Notes, I'm using the Christmas-y pages toward the back. This morning before church I had a chance to color in the holly leaves and stamped the date. I put down some strips of washi tape that I can use however it works best. Since the Bible passages are printed in the bulletin, I've been adding them to the blank side. I repositioned the washi tape to secure the edges, then added my scribbled notes around the excerpts. I had a selection of green and red pens/markers in my zippered pouch, so I alternated the colors to highlight key points. Sometimes I'll add lyrics from the worship songs, too. Today I just enjoyed singing the Christmas hymns and reflected on the incredible message Mary had received from the angel about the baby she would carry...her son who would become the Savior of the world. And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord, let it be to me according to Your Word." #advent #christmas #JesusChristisBorn #Mary
