Using Stencils on your Bible Quilt Journal pages

Sometimes when creating a freestyle BQ page, a basic shape can help provide you with a format in which to start a title.

Tracing an arrow stencil to use as a title

Don't underestimate the value of simple stencils! Tracing a shape onto your page provides you with instant structure.

You can color inside the shape, then add a title or verse. To reinforce the visual impact of a shape, draw smaller images of it throuhgout the page or try using washi tape or stickers with that image.

You could also start with a template that already has the shape of a stencil you're using. For example, I could have paired the arrow border template with the arrow stencil.

Note: I keep a stash of basic shape stencils in a 3-ring binder. If you're able to attend an in-person BQ session with me, remind me to pull it out for you to give this technique a try!
