Sails of Praise

Updated: Apr 16

The featured template in the 2024 Monthly Bible Quilt Journal is a cute little sailboat designed by my sister-in-law a few years ago.

Ready to play around with it and sail into some scripture? ⛵️

Right away I had the idea to highlight the water with some decorative scrapbook paper. I was delighted to find some in my stash with some rippled wave action.

I made a photocopy of the template page to make a pattern to cut out the blue waves.

Next I glued the ocean waves onto the page and colored in some swirly blues to even out the water effect below the boat.

I added an anchor sticker, extending the rope all the way up to the boat, then I began a deep dive for some verses. Sea what I did there?! 😉

I was inspired by a verse in my daily reading plan in Psalm 36, which I used as a starter.

"Your judgments are as full of wisdom as the oceans are full of water." Psalm 36:6

Once I had this verse in place, I decided to seek out scriptures that highlighted other characteristics of God.

I found a "praise" sticker to place on the sail, providing me with a unifying focus and potential title to tie all these scriptures together.

I added some little fish stickers for some animation in the water.

Unintentionally, the verses I'd selected had all come from Psalms so I decided to finish out the remaining quilt blocks with additional scriptures from Psalms.

What ideas for this template do you have floating about?

Here's an adorable flotilla of sailboats from a group of Bible Quilters in Alabama:
