The other night a few of us got together to Bible Quilt some fall pages. My friend opened us up in prayer with the familiar phrase,
"where two or three are gathered..."
Indeed it does not require a crowd to be impacted by fellowship or the power of scripture.
We laughed, shared stories, and made connections. At the end of the night we did a post-it note page of encouragement for a mutual friend.
I pulled out a variety of post-it note pads and we selected a few colors to make a pattern.
We each wrote out a verse on a post-it note, then combined them onto a page.
Tip: Leave space around the edges of the sticky notes so you have plenty of room to add strips of washi tape.
Next we chose several washi tapes in the blue family b/c the recipient likes the color blue. We applied the washi tape in vertical and horizontal pairings, then quilted in some stitch lines around the perimeter of the sticky notes.
"where two or three are gathered..."
By joining together on this small project, we quilted our favorite scriptures of comfort in each of our own unique handwriting styles to create a tapestry of support for our mutual friend. Each of us could have done this individually, but it's a sweeter gift with the sentiments combined, don't you think?
I slipped the colorful page into a page protector and dropped it off at the recipient's house the next morning. It was only a small gesture of encouragement from those of us gathered together, but it brought tender comfort to our mutual friend who realized she was being lifted up even when not physically present with us.
Do you have someone on your mind that you've wanted to reach out to, but weren't sure what to do or say? I've learned that you can't go wrong with scripture... and the ease of crafting these little quilted post-it pages makes it a manageable gesture with a quick turnaround time. It's even more meaningful with a friend or two beside you! (You could even gather up post-it note verses from several friends if you're supporting someone in a community group or Bible study.)
Another way to do a post-it encouragement page is to prep the page first, then offer it to friends to write in a verse. If the recipient has a BQ journal, she can glue it directly onto a page like we typically do for templates. If not, then the page could be slipped into an acrylic frame or page protector.
"For where two or three gather in My Name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20
