With time and practice, I've gotten more "efficient" Bible Quilting during church. I thought I'd share a recent page I did using the BQ Notes journal. It's vertically oriented and easily held on my lap.
Before church I prepped the page with pastel gelatos on the Grandmother's Flower Garden template, the next page in my journal.
I stamped the date on the page, outlined the flower perimeter, and added a strip of washi tape to pull all the colors together.
Oops! I forgot to put my pen pouch back in my church bag, so all I had was a thin black Sharpie my husband had and a pink pen I found at the bottom of my purse!
I used the black Sharpie to take notes during the service, then filled in the flower petals with scripture from the sermon passage using colorful Papermate Flair pens when I returned home.
Here's the typical layout of my BQ Notes journal:
I tear out the scripture passages from the church bulletin and paste them onto the blank side of the journal (back side of previous page). I have a glue stick in my pen pouch and usually do this part during the announcements. Then when the scripture passage is read aloud, I can underline/highlight verses.
I like having the full text on the left side, so I can concentrate on the note-taking on the right page. Sometimes I'll Bible Quilt 1-2 verses in addition to the sermon notes. It depends on how full the page is and how impactful the verses are to further illustrate the message.
Since our music is often coordinated with the sermon topic, I will also add titles/phrases from the hymns onto my BQ page and draw a couple music notes to remind me that this was from the worship part of the service. 🎶
Have you tried note-taking this way yet?
